EMERGENCY ALERT INITIATIVES AND THE ALERT FM PROGRAIJ I
WHEREAS, Bare on the Ridge is a non-profit organization, started in 2007, that raises funds to benefit the
community and ensure the safety of the people, livestock and property of the Magalia Community on the Upper Ridge
and throughout Butte County; and
WHEREAS, Bare on the Ridge has been instrumental in support of the Sawmill Peak lookout, the installation of
strategically placed ForestWatch early wildfire detection cameras throughout the County and additional fire suppression
education and assistance within the community; and
WHEREAS, Alert FM is a radio based emergency alert system that can be used to alert residents of threats posed by
wildfire or other dangers that is not reliant on power or cell phone service and Alert FM contributes to the County's hazard
mitigation efforts by increasing its ability to communicate vital information to the public during emergencies; and
WHEREAS, on April 6, 2022 the members of Bare on the Ridge announced to Sheriff Holnea that the organization
unanimously approved the award of a donation of approximately $61,500 to the support of community disaster
emergency alerts and namely the Butte County Alert FM Program; and
WHEREAS, the donated funds will be used to purchase Alert FM receivers and provide a multi -phased outreach to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Bare on the Ridge is preparing to dissolve and this last donation will be the bulk and sum of funds available
for gifting and the last act of this non-profit entity; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriff's Office shall work in coordination with the Department of Employment and
Social Services for use of the donation in accordance with the preferences and stipulations of Bare on the Ridge as a
condition of acceptance of this award;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors accept the generous donation
from Bare on the Ridge to support the Alert FM Program and acknowledge the contributions of the organization to
awareness and support of fire suppression initiatives in Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 10t" day of May, 2022, by the following
vote:
