Board Members,
I want to give you a heads up of an issue brewing in Chico and the homeless situation. Taylor Storey,
the Director of True North Housing Alliance, which includes the Torres Shelter, has let us know that
the Torres Shelter has run into financial difficulties. Absent financial help, the shelter could cease
operations in the next 2-4 months. As you know, without the Torres Shelter in operations, the City of
Chico would have to stop its enforcement of illegal camping.
I spoke with Paul Hahn at the City, and he is setting up a multidisciplinary task force to work with the
Torres Shelter to help them develop short term and long term solutions that will keep the shelter
open. According to Paul, the task force may reach out to Board Members individually, depending on
the solutions that they develop.
