Good evening, Board members –
I’m circling back on this email from earlier this afternoon regarding recent maintenance work on roads in Richvale. These roads are located in Supervisor Kimmelshue’s district, although
we have received similar complaints on other roads throughout the County in recent months.
Butte County road crews are busy preparing county roads for surface treatments scheduled for next summer, including the roads listed below in Richvale. Surface treatments (i.e. slurry
seals, chip seals, etc.) are far less expensive than more substantial rehabilitation projects like overlaps but require localized road repairs and preparation before a surface treatment
is applied. These repairs may not be aesthetically pleasing but are needed to ensure a successful road surface treatment next year. In some cases, multiple visits may be needed to complete
all of the necessary prep work.
Many residents see these repairs and assume we have haphazardly performed permanent repairs on their roads. Unaware that the work is temporary and that permanent improvements are scheduled
for next year, they reach out to us to voice their concerns. Under most circumstances, they are satisfied when they hear about our pending plans.
Scott Hightower – one of our Assistant Directors of Public Works – will reach out to Ms. Young to chat about her concerns. We will work directly with Supervisor Kimmelshue if there is
any follow-up needed. If you hear any similar concerns from your respective constituents, feel free to reach out to me.
Enjoy your evening! – Josh

Hi Mr. Kimmelshue,
I am a homeowner in Richvale, CA on Lindale Ave. Recently our roads have been repaved and our whole community was very excited to finally get the roads repaired. However, the work
that had been done looks awful and completely unfinished. I contacted Butte County Public Works and spoke to a gentleman, Doug I believe that said there is no more work to be done
on the roads this year. Apparently, we are supposed to get them chip sealed next year sometime but residents have looked on the agenda, budget and saw that we were not on that list.
This really is a mute point because the roads can not be left in the
state they're in.
I have attached several photos of the roads in our town and I am quite confident that if this was your neighborhood, you would not allow this work to remain in the state they are in.
There is at least 15 feet along the roads on each side that are unpaved and look absolutely ridiculous.
Please look at these photos and get the crew back out here to complete the job. We can not wait until next year for a chip seal, especially when it sounds like that probably won't
happen. In addition to that, I was told that chip seal is where gravel will be laid down on the roads. We do not want gravel roads! Our children ride bikes, scooters and walk our
dogs on the roads. We all take great pride in our yards and our town and would like our roads to look as nice as our homes and yards do. This is just not ok. Especially on Lindale
where my home is. We have sidewalks and the unfinished roads look absolutely awful.
Please send the crew back out and finish the paving over the entire road.
I appreciate your assistance with this and look forward to your response.
Regards,
Lisa Young
