BUTTE COUNTY ALLOCATED $72 MILLION TO RESTORE INFRASTRUCTURE AFTER THE CAMP FIRE
Oroville, CA – The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) announced that Butte County will
receive over $72 million in infrastructure funds to support disaster recovery. The funding is part of the Community
Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding appropriated by Congress for federally-declared disasters,
including the 2018 Camp Fire.
“I am very pleased to see the money I helped to allocate arrive to help our region recover from the devastating fires we faced.
These funds are critical to help Paradise, Butte County, and Chico, rebuild the destruction and improve their infrastructure to
prevent future wildfire damage. I will continue partnering with our local governments in the North State to clear up federal
roadblocks, ensure our taxpayer dollars are used wisely to complete projects and help our beleaguered citizens to recover”
states Doug LaMalfa, U.S. Representative for Butte County.
Restoration of infrastructure systems throughout Butte County is critical to our countywide resilience and recovery. Priority
projects will include the repair of roads damaged due to fire response and subsequent tree and debris removal, construction of
service facilities to support the resiliency needs of residents, and the upgrade of utility services taxed by the shift of population
from the fire impacted areas to other communities. The Butte County Board of Supervisors will set priorities for proposed
projects in the coming months.
“Nearly four years ago, Butte County experienced the deadliest fire in California history. We have made great progress in our
recovery efforts leading up to this point, and this funding will allow us to continue that progress at a level we would not
otherwise be able to accomplish. We are grateful for this award, and look forward to continued progress in our ongoing
recovery efforts,” said Bill Connelly, Chair of the Butte County Board of Supervisors.
