RESOLUTION |0RECOGNITION OFLIEUTENANT STEVE COLLINS UPON HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, after 26 years of dedicated public service, Lieutenant Steve Collins will be retiring. During his career,
his service to the citizens of Butte Cmunty and the Butte County Sheriff's Office has been exemplary; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Collins began his career with the Butte County Sheriff's Office im1996asa full-time Deputy
Sheriff. Lieutenant Collins left Butte County for a brief time in 1998 to work as a peace officer in Oregon but returned in
19919�. In lOOZ, then Deputy Collins was promoted to Sheriffs Sergeant and held supervisory assignments in Patrol
Operations, the Special Enforcement Unit, the Marine Unit, the Felony Investigations Unit, and oversaw Aviation, and
Search and Rescue operations; and
WHEREAS, in 2019, Collins was promoted to Sheriff's Lieutenant and tasked with overseeing the newly created
Emergency Management Unit. During his tenure in Emergency Management, Lieutenant Collins increased the capacity
and efficiency of the County's alert and vvarmUmg system, assisted in the creation of the Agriculture Pass Program, the
Community Emergency Response Team /CERT\,the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) platform, creation ufthe first
ever evacuation zone map for Butte County, and oversaw the management of Regional Mutual Aid Coordination for
Ca|OES Region 3;and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Collins served during countless emergencies over the years, notably, he assisted with
evacuation coordination during the Oroville Dam Spillway incident in, 2�17, he helped create and manage processes and
procedures for the search and recovery of hmnnam remains during the Camp Fire in 2010, and worked as Incident
Commander for the Law Enforcement response during the North Complex Fire in2O2[tand
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Collins is regularly recognized for his professionalism, conmpassbn^and commitment to
both the employees and citizens ofButte County. Lieutenant Collins is regarded as truly kind-hearted friend and loyal
colleague bvhis fellow peace officers and has proven time and again that he isavigilant guardian ofthe community, aind
WHEREAS, for the reasons stated above and for many more, too numerous to express, Lieutenant Collins
embodies the characteristics of superb Lieutenant, an exemplary |am/ enforcement officer, and great citizen of Butte
County, and
NOW/ THEREFORE/ BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby express their deep
appreciation for the exemplary service and unselfish dedication, of Steve Collins during his career with the Butte County
Sheriff's Office,
