HomeMy WebLinkAbout22-161WHEREAS, Butte County recognizes that all children need love, support, security, and a place to call home; and
WHEREAS, every year, more than 117,000 children in foster care in the United States are available for adoption; and
WHEREAS, the average length of time a child spends in foster care in the United States waiting for an adoptive
family is between two and four years; and
WHEREAS, in Butte County there are approximately 500 children and youth in foster care; and
WHEREAS, from January 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022, 31 adoptions have been finalized for Butte County children
in foster care. During November of 2022, an additional 23 adoptions will be finalized, totaling 54 in 2022; and
WHEREAS, November has been designated as National Adoption Awareness Month and is declared so by
presidential proclamation each year; and
WHEREAS, the goal of National Adoption Awareness Month is to increase public awareness of the needs of children
waiting for permanent homes, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of adoptive parents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
November 2022 as Adoption Awareness Month in Butte County; recognizes that every child deserves a permanent and
loving family; and enco'uirages all citizens to consider adoption during the month of November and throughout the year.
