HomeMy WebLinkAbout22-168WHEREAS, California has an estimated 2010,000 homeless youth, including some 1,500 K-12 students in Butte County; and WHEREAS, approximately 251 of youth, exiting foster care will experience homelessness; and WHEREAS, natural disaster and lack of affordable housing have exacerbated youth homelessness across rural WHEREAS, a high percentage of homeless youth have been physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused by their guardians and are frequently re -victimized and exploited while living on the streets and in shelters; and WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ young adults are at a 120% higher risk of homelessness when compared to their peers, and comprise about 40% of the unaccompanied homeless youth population; and WHEREAS, due to the lack of stable housing, homeless youth face great difficulty in accessing stable home lives and succeeding in school, reducing the likely hood of successful graduation; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Butte County, California are the key to preventing youth homelessness by acting as mentors and role models for youth, guiding them towards available resources, productive choices and creating opportunities for youth to, successfully transition to adulthood. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim November 2022 as Runaway and Homeless Youth Prevention Month. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 81" day of November 2022, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Ritter, Kimmelshue, Teeter and Chair Connelly NOES: None ABSENT: None Bill Connelly, Chair Butte County Board of Supervisors Andy Pickett, Chief Administrative Officer and Cl -.01 of the Boar - f Supe visors By: Deputy
