WHEREAS, Tourism plays a critical role in Butte County and the state's economic prosperity; and
WHEREAS, A robust travel industry provides significant economic benefits for the entire state,generating more
than $1]4.7billion dollars mvisitor spending in2D22; and
WHEREAS, Travel has been the foundation of healthy workforce, serving as one of the largest private -sector
employers inCalifornia, supporting 1.1million jobs in2O22;and
WHEREAS, Spending by travelers benefits state and local governments alike, generating $11.9billion dollars intax
revenue in 2022 to support essential public services and programs that benefit all Californians; and
WHEREAS, In Butte County, Tourism generated $341.9M in visitor spending, $28.2M in state and local tax revenue
and 3.8K jobs in 2022 to support essential services, such as education, emergency response, public safety and more; and
WHEREAS, travel enables success for all ind ustries— including manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and more—
by driving sales growth, innovation, education and operations that move our economy and Butte County forward.
WHEREAS, travel is an essential industry, and we must continue to communicate that growing travel leads to
economic growth, benefits businesses, and fosters mutual understanding.
WHEREAS, The California Legislature in2O15declared every May asCalifornia Tourism Month imcelebrate the
positive economic impact ofthe tourism inCalifornia; and
WHEREAS, Californians can help put their fellow Californians back to work and support the recovery oflocal
businesses by traveling in California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes May 2023 as
Butte County Travel and Tourism Month.
