WHEREAS, athletes and volunteer officers run the Flame of Hope to the opening ceremonies of local Special
Olympics competitions, as well as, state and national games; and
WHEREAS, the Special Olympics yearly serves more than 4i2 million athletes in 170 countries, and more than
85,000 law enforcement officers participate in the Special Olympics world-wide; and
WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began, in 1981, and since its inception has become a global event, im
which aill 50 states and more than 46 countries participate; and

participate in California Torch Run events; and
WHEREAS, Butte County Law Enforcement Officers and staff participate in annual Law Enforcement Torch Run
activities, and support fundraising efforts and recognize the positive impact the combined contributions have on
individuals and families with intellectual disabilities; and
WHEREAS, on June 22, 20,23, Butte County Probation, along with the Butte County Sheriffs Office, the Chico Police
Department and the California Highway Patrol, Chico will participate in this year's Law Enforcement Torch, Run; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE0[RESOLVED that the Butte CmumtyBoard nfSupervisors hereby recognize the local efforts
tmsupport the Special Olympics, and encourage ongoing support through locally coordinated activities, agency sponsored
events and the Law Enforcement Torch Run om}mne22,2O23.
