HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-080PROCLAMATION IN RECOGNITION OF THE SERVICE OF GER VANG WHERE AS, Ger Vang served as director of the LAO Family Empowerment of Stockton for many years, and WHERE AS, Ger Vang coordinated with the Hmong communities throughout the United States to raise funds and build the late General Vang Pao's grand statue inside the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds which was unveiled in 2016, and WHERE AS, Ger Vang earned a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree from California State University Chico, and WHERE AS, Ger Vang served as a Coordinator for the Butte County Community Action Agency where he worked in cooperation with the City of Oroville to address and resolve racial issues between the Hmong and African American communities, and WHERE AS, Ger Vang served as the Director of the Lao Veterans of America, Inc. of Oroville. During his tenure he was able to secure a building to be used as a Hmong museum and community center, and worked tirelessly to re- establish the Lao Veterans of America, Inc. as a non-profit, and WHERE AS, Ger Vang served on the original advisory boards for the establishment of the Southside Community Center and Riverbend Park, and WHERE AS, Ger Vang was a dedicated father, grandfather, and educator, and NOW, THERFORE; BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby express their deep appreciation for the exemplary service and dedication of Ger Vang during his time serving the community.
