HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-084RESOLUTION DECLARING 2023 AS A YEAR OF RECOGNITION FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF BUTTE COUNTY FOR THEIR 30 YEARS OF SERVICE WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity of Butte County (Habitat) began its affordable homeownership housing efforts in 1993, and has, with its programs, prospective home owners, donors, and volunteers, built 48 energy efficient homes, 13 of those since the Camp Fire; and WHEREAS, Habitat has served 63 adults who raised 94 children in homes they can afford and thrive in; and WHEREAS, Habitat homeowners have provided over 15,750 sweat equity hours to help build their homes; and WHEREAS, Habitat homeowner have received 2,772 hours of financial and homeownership classes; and WHEREAS, Habitat families have pledged their labor and their commitment to building and maintaining homes; creating strong neighborhoods and communities; who shop locally, attend community events, and pay property taxes; and WHEREAS, volunteers have provided 25,200 volunteer hours on the construction sites, which is equivalent to $378,000 in labor costs; and WHEREAS, Habitat's ReStore has diverted nearly 6,500,000 lbs. or three cargo ships of building materials and house goods from the landfill since 2004; and WHEREAS, Habitat's ReStore has generated over $1 million in net proceeds to support the mission of building affordable housing for homeownership in Butte County; and WHEREAS, Habitat has partnered with local government to build energy-efficient and sustainable, affordable housing to contribute to neighborhood development; and WHEREAS, Habitat has had a 100% success rate, meaning zero homeowners have foreclosed on their mortgage; and WHEREAS, Habitat's future is promising for continued growth in building more houses in Butte County for local families, with much to celebrate and more to build. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes and appreciates Habitat for Humanity of Butte County for 30 years of service to our community, who, along with the ReStore and thousands of business and community members have made invaluable contributions to improve the quality and character of our county.
