HomeMy WebLinkAbout23-085RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING AUGUST 2023 AS "CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH" WHEREAS, The Mission of the Butte County Department of Child Support Services is "CSS and Parents working together for Children"; and WHEREAS, Child Support Awareness Month celebrates the important emotional and financial parental support that creates a brighter future for our children, helping them to perform better in school, have improved emotional development, a greater level of curiosity, better health, become more productive, strengthened parent/child relationships and a stable home life; and WHEREAS, Child Support Services is modernizing and adapting technological advances like electronic document signing and simplified online enrollment process which has made it easier for parents to access the services they need; and WHEREAS, During Child Support Awareness Month, it is important to remember that every family, in all their diverse shapes and sizes, has different wants and needs, but we all have the same shared goal: protecting and uplifting the generations of our future; and WHEREAS, There are over 8,519 cases in Butte County alone in which the services of the Butte County Department of Child Support Services are required, orders have been established in 8,035 cases, paternity has been established for 6,674 children and parents have paid over $13,791,812 toward the support of their children during the current federal fiscal year; and WHEREAS, During the month of August 2023, parents who have fallen behind in making their child support payments are encouraged to contact the child support office to make a payment, seek modification of their child support order, get their licenses released, obtain a repayment plan, and find out whether they qualify for a compromise on an overdue balance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognize the month of August 2023 as "Child Support Awareness Month" and commends parents who regularly pay their child support and the Department of Child Support Services for their steadfast commitment to improving the quality of life for Butte County's children. vote PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 8s' day of August, 2023, by the following AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Durfee, Ritter, Teeter, and Chair Kimmelshue NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ATTEST: Andy Pickett, Chief Administrative Officer andZ=PLCl By: rd of Supervisors
