MARK LUNBURG UPON RETIREMENT FROM BUTTE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Lundberg, Contract Physician with the Department of Behavioral Health, has announced his retirement effective December 30, 2023; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lundberg began his career with the County of Butte in June of 1996, working most of his career with the Department of Public Health serving for 20 years as the Public Health Officer. While serving as Health Officer, Dr. Lundberg championed preventive medicine, including efforts to promote early detection cancer screening, immunizations, access to health care, and healthy lifestyle factors such as nutrition and physical activity. Additionally, he was influential in this role, fighting stigma directed towards people with HIV/AIDS. In July of 2016, after many accomplishments and years of dedicated service with Public Health, Dr. Lundberg seamlessly transferred into the Substance Use Treatment and Recovery Services Medical Director role with the Department of Behavioral Health. In this role Dr. Lundberg oversaw substance use treatment service delivery and treatment planning while also maintaining and growing a medication assisted treatment clinic operating within the Department of Behavioral Health; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lundberg has devoted his career to improving the lives of individuals in our community and has taken great pride in his job serving the public, conducting himself with the highest level of integrity and responsibility; and WHEREAS, both as a County of Butte Employee and Contract Physician, Dr. Lundberg dedicated himself to providing excellent customer service to staff, clients and their families, and has been widely acknowledged as having the very best bedside manners of any physician in the history of medicine. Dr. Lundberg is respected as one of the original champions in this community for medication assisted treatment via prescription of buprenorphine and naltrexone, including recognition as one of the founders of the Butte -Glenn Medical Society Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force. Dr. Lundberg has promoted a high quality of care for an underserved, misunderstood, and stigmatized population, and has supported the growth of Behavioral Health to better serve these individuals; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lundberg has worked diligently for the past 27 years in the best interest of Butte County and its residents, earning the respect of his colleagues, other County departments, community stakeholders and the many clients and staff he has served over the years; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby extends its appreciation for your many years of dedicated service PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 121h day of December, 2023, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisor Connelly, Durfee, Ritter, Teeter and Chair Kimmelshue NOES: None ABSENT: None / ABSTAIN: None ATTEST: Andy Pickett, Chief Administrative Officer and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: Deputy Tod Kimmel tue, Chair Butte Count Board of Supervisors
