Grizzly Access Improvements – Project Update
Dear Frank L. Blackett:
This letter presents a status update on the access improvement project at Grizzly Forebay
Dam, which is part of Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s (PG&E) Bucks Creek
Hydroelectric Project, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) No. 619. FERC
authorized PG&E to proceed with the project in a letter dated June 17, 2021.
On April 7, 2022, PG&E filed a Design Change Notification to relocate the right abutment
stairway alignment and footings due to poor subgrade conditions. This change, along with
access delays in 2021 due to the Dixie Fire and early winter storms in 2022, have placed
PG&E behind its originally targeted schedule for completing the full scope of the Grizzly
Access Improvement work. Steel fabrication of the stairs is currently underway offsite,
delivery and installation will occur in the summer of 2023, with a full return to service
anticipated by October 31, 2023.
