RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING JANUARY AS CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, cervical cancer is a disease that strikes 13,000 women a year; and
WHEREAS, cervical cancer affects most women in the prime of life; and
WHEREAS, regular cervical cancer screening tests are effective in detecting the disease early when it can be most
effectively treated; and
WHEREAS, cervical cancer disproportionally impacts vulnerable communities lacking access to healthcare and
proven life-saving tools; and
WHEREAS, cervical cancer vaccines and screening tests are available and provide formidably effective means of
preventing this disease; and
WHEREAS, increasing awareness among patients and healthcare providers regarding the best use of these
prevention tools is a key component in safeguarding women's health; and
WHEREAS, we have the means to prevent cervical cancer and it is incumbent on all of us to ensure we have the
will to do so.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby declares the month of
January as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in Butte County, established to raise awareness that cervical cancer is
preventable and to support the women in our lives taking charge of their health and availing themselves of the tests and
vaccines that are proven effective in preventing cervical cancer.
