RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF CAPTAIN DARYL HOVEY UPON
HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE
WHEREAS, after more than 26 years of dedicated public service, Captain Daryl Hovey will be retiring on December
29, 2023. During his career, his service to the citizens of Butte County and the Butte County Sheriff's Office has been
exemplary; and
WHEREAS, Captain Hovey began his law enforcement career on August 23, 1997 when he was hired as a
Correctional Deputy at the Butte County Sheriff's Office. During his tenure with the Butte County Sheriff's Office, Captain
Hovey has held assignments in Jail Operations, Jail Administration and Jail Programs; and
WHEREAS, after being promoted to sergeant in 2002, then Sergeant Hovey was selected to supervise Jail
Administration Unit where he began the process of investigating and documenting gang members within the facility.
Hovey became a subject matter expert in gangs and shared his knowledge to staff within the Sheriff's Office and outside
agencies; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, then Sergeant Hovey was promoted to Correctional Lieutenant and was initially tasked with
overseeing all the staff responsible for daily jail operations. Hovey was also later tasked with overseeing jail programs,
which included the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program, Alternative Custody Supervision, Training, and Support Services;
and
WHEREAS, in 2017, during the Oroville Dam Spillway Crisis, Hovey assisted with the unprecedented evacuation of
578 inmates from the jail, who were safely and securely transported to Alameda County. And, in 2018, during the Camp
Fire, Hovey assisted with the initial community evacuations and supported ongoing recovery efforts; and
WHEREAS, in November of 2019, then Lieutenant Hovey was promoted to Correctional Captain and became the
Jail Division Commander. Captain Hovey was the first captain to come from within the ranks of the Corrections Division,
and, under his command, the Corrections Division overcame many challenges. Captain Hovey's contributions have made
a lasting impact and greatly benefited the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, for the reasons stated above and for many more, too numerous to express, Captain Daryl Hovey
embodies the characteristics of a superb captain, an exemplary law enforcement officer, and great citizen of Butte County;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby express their deep
appreciation for the exemplary service and unselfish dedication of Captain Daryl Hovey during his career with the Butte
County Sheriff's Office.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 23rd day of January 2024, by the following
vote:
