COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
Resolution No. 24-100
RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING AUGUST 2024 AS "CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH"
WHEREAS, The Mission of the Butte County Department of Child Support Services is "CSS and Parents working
together for Children"; and
WHEREAS, Child Support Awareness Month, recognized in California and nationwide, celebrates the important
emotional and financial parental support that creates a brighter future for our children, helping them to perform better
in school, have improved emotional development, better health, become more productive, strengthened parent/child
relationships and a stable home life; and
WHEREAS, California continues to make changes to improve the child support system which benefits both parents
working together while parenting their children, such as Assembly Bill 207, effective May 1st, 2024 which allows for all
collections on behalf of families who received cash assistance through CalWORKS to go directly to those families; and
WHEREAS, Child support professionals are dedicated to assisting parents and legal guardians in providing
consistent support for their children and understand that one size does not fit all, while helping to connect families with
vital resources to help their children grow and thrive; and
WHEREAS, There are over 8,125 cases in Butte County alone in which the services of the Butte County Department
of Child Support Services are required, orders have been established in 7,525 cases, paternity has been established or
resolved for 6,511 children and parents have paid over $12,856,636 toward the support of their children during the current
federal fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, During the month of August 2024, parents who have fallen behind in making their child support
payments are encouraged to contact the child support office to make a payment, seek modification of their child support
order, get their licenses released, obtain a repayment plan, and find out whether they qualify for a compromise on an
overdue balance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognize the month of
August 2024 as "Child Support Awareness Month" and commends parents who regularly pay their child support and the
Department of Child Support Services for their steadfast commitment to improving the quality of life for Butte County's
children.
