HomeMy WebLinkAbout24-102COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA Resolution No. 24-102 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE BUTTE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT AVIATION PROGRAM WHEREAS, Butte County is prone to wildfires. Initial response by aviation assets plays a vital role in slowing and suppressing wildfires; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors approved the use of an agreement for helicopter firefighting and wildfire suppression support; and WHEREAS, there are potentially significant costs associated with the use of a firefighting aircraft, supporting equipment, and facilities; and WHEREAS, because of limited funding to support these resources, the Fire Department recommends use of unanticipated revenue through the rental of firefighting aircraft; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the County to use this unanticipated revenue to support operations for firefighting aircraft, equipment and facilities; and WHEREAS, the funds may be used for other fire related purposes at the discretion of the Board of Supervisors. WHEREAS, the need to provide and maintain a quality aviation program to ensure readiness and capabilities of the Fire Department exists; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby formally establish the Fire Department Aviation Program Sub -Fund that would carry over year to year as an ongoing policy, finding that the program is critical to continue the suppression of wildfires. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Aviation Program Sub -Fund has as sources of revenue all fund sources listed: A. Unanticipated revenue from use of County Fire Aviation resources by Federal agencies. B. Unanticipated revenue from use of County Fire Aviation resources by State agencies. C. Unanticipated revenue from use of County Fire Aviation resources by Local agencies. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, to authorize Butte County Fire Chief to administer the Aviation Program Fund and authorize expenditures through the standard County processes.
