I have been involved with the Butte County Library for over 50 years as an employee (including 14 years at
Director), volunteer and Library Advisory Board member. Over the years I have witnessed huge swings in funding
from the halcyon years of the 1970s to the low point in 1989-90 when I was one of three employees paid by County
funds. Throughout the turmoil the Library has continuously served the citizens of Butte County by providing
materials (books, e-books, video formats etc.), Internet access, programming for children, teens and adults, research
assistance, and a safe place to be. I am very grateful to the voters of Butte County who supported Measure H and to
the Board of Supervisors for promptly acting to provide the necessary funding to support expanded library hours.
