Day 2 of the weeklong celebration, today we celebrate an exemplary leader in Butte County. Join us for a brief conversation with Meegan. Meegan Jessee Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Butte County How do you explain to others what you do? This can be tricky, I usually start simple with County Administration and then explain some of the things we do – budget management, preparing policy decisions for Board of Supervisors consideration, facilitating Department collaborations and responding to emergencies. So many people do not realize the ways that local government touches our everyday lives and helping them see those connections helps them both understand what I do and more importantly what the County does. What drew you to public service? I had the opportunity to shadow my local City Manager when I was in high school and it made a big impression. I attended a meeting with her, watched her navigate a neighborhood issue and saw how the work she did was making my community a better place. I was attracted by the idea that my career could have a positive impact on my community. That helped me decide to pursue a career in local government and I continue to be thankful to work on behalf of my community. What’s the best piece of advice that you've ever received? Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Three A’s: what’s your favorite Artist, Attraction, and Appetizer? My three A’s – for Artist I’d have to say my two preteen daughters who both love art. For Attraction I’ll go with Lake Almanor – my happy place, where I spend free time in the summer with family. Finally, for Appetizer you can’t beat some good cheese, French bread and a glass of wine – bonus points if it’s at Lake Almanor.
