Top of mind for House and Senate leaders is a military-aid package for Ukraine and Israel, as well as a foreign intelligence surveillance reauthorization package. Absent any sort of consensus in the House, all three are indefinitely delayed. Read more. State Approves Loan to Begin Reopening of MaderaCommunity Hospital This week, the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) and the California Health Facilities Financing Authority approved a $57 million no-interest loan through the Distressed Hospital Loan Program to reopen the Madera Community Hospital. In addition, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has approved a Change of Management Application filed by American Advanced Management, Inc. These approvals will allow the Madera Community Hospital to begin the reopening process. Read more. Deadline Extended: Fair Housing Plan to Assess Fair HousingChoice Community Needs Assessment Survey The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is in the process of updating California’s fair housing plan, also known as the Analysis of Impediments (AI) to fair housing choice (background information included below). Part of the fair housing plan is to provide a Community Needs Assessment survey. The survey helps HCD identify the states housing, community development and supportive service’s needs. Additionally, it helps determine where HCD should spend resource allocations, and the program activities and supportive services communities need the most. Read more. CDC Issues Health Advisory on H5N1 Bird Flu in US On Friday April 5, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health alert network health advisory after a person in Texas tested positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5N1) virus (“H5N1 bird flu”). This is only the second confirmed human case of H5N1 bird flu in the United States; the first was in a poultry worker in Colorado in 2022. The CDC alert indicates the current risk to the general public remains low. Read more. We have expanded the conference to three days and packed them full of exciting speakers and educational updates as well as opportunities to engage and connect with legislators, state leaders, and of course, your county peers.
