FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION Washington, D. C. 20426 OFFICE OF ENERGY PROJECTS Project No. 7242-060 —California Kanaka Hydroelectric Project STS Hydropower, LLC April 18, 2024 VIA USPS First-Class Mail Subject: Consultation on surrender application for the Kanaka Hydroelectric Project To the Tribes Addressed: This letter concerns an application filed by STS Hydropower, LLC (licensee or
STS ), on September 30, 202 2, and supplemented on February 28, and April 28, 2023, to
surrender the license for the Kanaka Hydroelectric Project No. 7242.1 The project is
located on Sucker Run Creek, a tributary of the South Fork Feather River, in Butte
County, California, near the town of Feather Falls. The project does not occupy federal
lands. The license for the project was issued on August 20, 1985, and expires on July 31,
2035. The project is located entirely on private lands and has been inoperable since
August 2017 when the powerhouse, transmission lines, and electrical equipment were
destroyed by the Ponderosa Wildfire. Considering the extensive damage to project
features, STS determined that it is not cost effective to restore project operation. Instead,
STS proposes to surrender the license and remove the damaged facilities. The surrender application and supplements to the application, can be reviewed at
