The violations cited in this matter were not caused by any intentional action or neglect on my part. They arose from the unlawful occupation of the property by unauthorized trespassers, who were on the premises without my knowledge or permission. I was the person who first contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Department in June 2024 to report this activity and initiate their removal. After sustained efforts, the trespassers were formally evicted on October 2, 2024. Throughout this time, I actively cooperated with law enforcement and took every reasonable step to secure the property and bring it into compliance. I was unaware that Butte County Code Enforcement was attempting to contact me during this period. Had I known, I would have responded promptly and directly to address the concerns. The condition of the property was beyond my control while it was illegally occupied. I neither caused nor contributed to the violations, and I have acted in good faith from the beginning to resolve the situation responsibly. The fines and lien imposed now place a severe burden on me personally, emotionally, and financially. I respectfully request a full file review and ask that the County consider a removal of the penalties in light of these mitigating circumstances. I also suggest that this is remedied and preventive measures are put in place so this does not happen to other tax paying land owners in the future within the great county of Butte. I would appreciate the opportunity to present my case more fully in a hearing or meeting. Supporting documentation, including police reports and correspondence, is available upon request.
