Starting February 9th, in a few weeks, I will start as your next Plumas Forest Supervisor. As you may be aware, Caitlin Ostomel has already started permanently as the Deputy Forest Supervisor. We both look forward to continued collaboration and dialog. Best regards, Rick (RLT refers to Regional Leadership Team, our Forest Service region’s Forest Supervisors, Directors, Deputies and Regional Forester’s Team) From Jen Eberlien on 1/13/2025: Rick Hopson will continue on the RLT but in a new role, as our new permanent Forest Supervisor on the Plumas National Forest, starting in early February. Rick is currently the Deputy Director of the Ecosystem Management staff within the Pacific Southwest Region of the Forest Service. Prior to his current position, he was a District Ranger on the Eldorado National Forest, Regional Hydrologist in the Intermountain Region, and served in various hydrologist positions in Region 5, including on the Sierra and Inyo National Forests and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. In 2020 he served four months as the Acting Director of Grants and Agreements and in 2024 as the Acting Ecosystem Management Director for the Pacific Southwest Region. Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota, the state he is from, and a Master of Science degree in Forest Hydrology from Oregon State University. In his free time, Rick enjoys exploring our national forests, practicing yoga, and enjoys cooking (and eating) and spending time with friends and family.
