motorists of a new traffic signal at the
intersection of State Route 32 (SR-32)
and Meridian Road in Chico that will be
activated starting Thursday, December
19 (weather permitting) as part of the
$24.8 million Gianella-Muir Safety and
Meridian Road Signal Project.
The project is designed to enhance
safety with upgraded lighting, widened
shoulders, improved bridge
approaches, rehabilitated culverts, and
the new traffic signal at Meridian Road.

New Traffic Signal Activation on Meridian Road in Chico
New Signal Aims to Improve Safety
Safety improvements are needed to
address substandard shoulder widths,
deteriorated pavement conditions and
to install improved lighting on this
section of SR-32. Construction began
in July 2023 and is anticipated to be
completed by mid-January.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone
Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these
improvements.
