Night Work Scheduled on State Route 32 Improvement Project in Chico
Overnight Drainage Work and Signal Modifications Underway
CHICO – Caltrans is alerting motorists about ongoing and upcoming construction
activities on the State Route 32 (SR-32) Improvement Project in Chico. The project,
which aims to rehabilitate pavement, upgrade drainage systems, improve pedestrian
accessibility, and enhance traffic signals, will continue with phased work over the next
several months.
Current & Upcoming Traffic Impacts:
· Ongoing Night Work: Underground drainage installation began last week and
will continue nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the next three weeks under one-
way traffic control throughout the project limits. Expect minor delays.
· Traffic Signal Construction & Modifications: Work will begin throughout the
project area starting April 1.
· Pavement Work: The entire project limits will undergo grinding and overlay in
the fall of 2025 or early spring of 2026.
Project Limits:
· The work zone extends from the State Route 99/ SR-32 intersection (8th & 9th
Streets) to the SR-32/Muir Avenue intersection.
Motorists should anticipate lane closures, one-way traffic controls, and potential delays
during nighttime operations. Please plan accordingly, use alternate routes when
possible, and follow all posted detour signs.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be
Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews
performing these improvements.
