Please exercise judgment before opening attachments, clicking on links, or replying.. I’m writing to protest the proposed (tax) on the short term rentals. It is unclear the way that letter was written if the 10% already taken includes the “current” 2% that is mentioned in the letter. I have personally not been renting my Airbnb room for over a year now but I pay the permit fee to the city in case I change my mind. I find that taking 10% seems excessive considering the labor and all other things associated with strangers using the space hardly worth it. It seems your board is heavy on hotel owners and that Airbnb has put a dent in their profits. Please keep in mind that the desire to use “other than” hotels is driven by demand for it. This levy seems heavy and designed to discourage the “other market. The people that have used my room are visiting family or it’s work related. Rarely or never is it related to tourism. Frankly, people can go on the internet and search for events or whatever if they happen to be passing through. Hopefully 50% of us will weigh in on the fee in protest. Again I will say that this seems like a veiled attempt to attack Airbnb providers. If this was about taking rentals or the purchase of more affordable homes out of the market with absentee homeowners, that would be a different issue that I could support.
