Subject: Letter of Support – Butte County Tourism Business Improvement District Modification
Dear Honorable Chair and Board Members, As the representative of Hampton Inn & Suites in Oroville and a board member for Explore ButteCounty, I write in strong support of the proposed modifications to the Butte County TourismBusiness Improvement District (BCTBID), as submitted by Explore Butte County, the designatedOwners’ Association. The proposed changes—including the removal of the room-count threshold, inclusion of short-term vacation rentals, scheduled assessment rate adjustments, and revised term of the district—will ensure a more equitable and comprehensive funding structure. These changes are essentialto strengthening our shared capacity to attract overnight visitors and enhance tourism-driveneconomic impact across all communities in Butte County. Explore Butte County has proven itself to be a responsible steward of BCTBID funds, deliveringmeasurable returns through marketing, visitor services, and destination development. As aparticipant in the district, I see firsthand the benefits of coordinated investment in tourismpromotion and the value of a stable, long-term funding source dedicated exclusively to theneeds of assessed businesses. I'd like to ask the Board of Supervisors to approve the proposed modifications as outlined in theupdated Management District Plan. Sincerely,Sareena MerchantHampton Inn & Suites, OrovilleBoard Member, Explore Butte County
