Subject: Letter of Support- Butte County Tourism
Dear Honorable Chair and Board Members,
As a STVR manager with 45 properties in Butte County, I write in strong support of the
proposed modifications to the Butte County Tourism Business Improvement District
(BCTBID), as submitted by Explore Butte County, the designated Owners’ Association.
The proposed changes, including the removal of the room-count threshold, inclusion of
short-term vacation rentals (STVRs), scheduled assessment rate adjustments, and a
revised district term, will create a more equitable and comprehensive funding
structure. These changes are essential to strengthening our shared capacity to attract
overnight visitors and enhance tourism-driven economic impact across all communities
in Butte County.
Including STVRs will also enable Explore Butte County (EBC) to extend benefits to these
properties, such as marketing campaigns that elevate Butte County’s profile on
platforms like Airbnb and Expedia (which owns VRBO). Additionally, it will provide STVR
owners, operators, and managers like myself the opportunity for representation on the
EBC Board, ensuring our perspectives and the unique needs of STVR lodging properties
are considered.
I'd like to ask the Board of Supervisors to approve the proposed modifications as
outlined in the updated Management District Plan.
Sincerely,
Ashley DeKellis
