Subject: ADU permitting and septic issue
To whom it may concern,
I am in a predicament, and I am not sure where to turn.
I'd like to start off with when I purchased my home in 2013, I was told city sewer was
going in in the next 5 years.
In 2021 my septic system failed and so I called the city to find out about tying into the
city sewer. I was informed that there were no longer plans to have city sewer put in and
my only option was to have my septic rebuilt.
I had Chico Septic rebuild my septic system and expand it as I was building and ADU and
wanted the septic to support that.
Last year I went to start the permitting process on my ADU. But Danny with
environmental health is saying the septic system I had built and expanded is no longer
sufficient. This is my only hiccup on getting the ADU permitted. Danny is saying I have to
have the entire system rebuilt with a denitrification system.
there are multiple current nitrate zone maps out and only one shows I am in a nitrate
zone. Was I not in a nitrate zone when my septic rebuilt and expansion was permitted in
2021?
I have called almost everyone I have been referred to, yet I still can't get any straight
answers.
I need someone who can help me in this situation. I would like my ADU permitted but do
not see how it is necessary to have my septic rebuilt just 4 years after it was expanded
for the ADU and was permitted. Can you please help me? Thank you.
Sincerely a very frustrated home owner and business owner,
Tammie Harvey
