Please exercise judgment before opening attachments, clicking on links, or replying.. We should be urging the federal government to improve its fire behavior modeling. The 2020 North Complex, the 2021 Tamarack Fire, and the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire all became catastrophic due to federal underestimations of risk once the fire was alight. Prescribed fire in the shoulder season, like we have recently seen on National Forest lands around Magalia, can have benefits but only if wildfires in the dry season are managed in accordance with our current climate and the weather patterns large fires themselves create. Accurately modeling potential fire spread under critical conditions and allocating resources accordingly will provide better yield than any amount of Sisyphean vegetation removal. This bill has its merits but could be improved. Our former state senator was an advocate for improving forest management here in the North State, but please CC our current state senator on this here.
