User comment: Regarding the increase in fees that explore Butte County wants to make
on short term vacation rental fees, I do not believe that all true private sector operators
of such lodging facilities have been notified. I believe that quasi governmental "NGO"
investment firms that own the hotels or that pay the speakers in attendance to today's
hearing are the ones who are swaying the vote on this. This will NOT help our tourism and
will only hinder it, as well as the private sector business owners who are getting
winnowed out of this market. This will cause them to want to join the exodus from this
state and do business in another state, and will pass the increase in cost onto the
consumer, which will become more exorbitant in the hands of corporations whose
owners and/or board members don't even live here.
