Public safety depends on rapid response times, and FS38 provides a critical advantage: Approximately 50–60% of Golden Feather Volunteer Fire Company (GFVFC) callouts are to the Concow Lake Basin and Jordan Hill areas. Response from FS38 is 30 minutes faster to these areas, avoiding 10 miles of dangerous roadway. Locating vehicles at FS38 creates no negative impact on Yankee Hill or Big Bend response times. There is no cost to the County: maintenance and utilities are covered by the community and GFVFC nonprofit. A community survey showed strong support for keeping fire equipment at FS38. The community has already committed funds to support this cost, with money in the bank. In addition, key operational facts make FS38 the most effective site: Only certified volunteer drivers can operate the engine and water tender. Two of the three certified drivers live in the Concow Basin, with a third local volunteer soon to be certified. FS38 equipment bays remain operable without PG&E power (unlike FS37). FS38 is centrally located with safe access and adequate parking, unlike FS37’s limited site. Medical response equipment is on the engine, which requires it to be housed nearby to remain operable. By stopping fires in Concow, we also protect Paradise and Magalia from future fire spread. For all of these reasons, we ask that the Board take action to house an Engine and Water Tender at Fire Station 38. This is the most effective, cost-neutral, and life-saving choice for our community. Thank you for your consideration and for your ongoing commitment to the safety of Butte County residents. Sincerely, Carroll Curtis & Tara Ramelli Resident, Concow/Yankee Hill
