Letter to the Butte County Supervisors
Fire Station No 38 being decommissioned
August 20, 2025
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally address my displeasure with this decision and would hope that you
would reconsider this decision.
Summary of Issues
1. We ask the Board to direct the placement of a Fire Engine at FS38 in order to provide
improved response time (approximately 30 minutes faster) for medical, accident
and fire response to the Concow Basin and Jordan Hill areas without any
detrimental effect on service to Yankee Hill, Big Bend and other areas where our
volunteer firefighters are responding.
2. There are two certified fire engine drivers in Co 37 Volunteer Firefighters, and a third
well on the way to being certified, all of whom live within 5 minutes of FS38.
Currently, they drive 10-15 minutes from their homes to Fire Station 37 to man the
Fire Engine and respond to an incident. If the incident is in Jordan Hill or the Concow
Basin, including Hoffman Rd up to Hog Ranch Rd, it's another 15 minutes or more
back up Concow Rd to respond. It is important to note that the medical kit used by
our volunteer firefighters is kept in the Fire Engine, and must stay there in order for it
to be able to respond to an incident. Survey results from 2024 showed strong
support from the community for retaining FS38 and housing an engine there in order
to improve response time to North Concow so that our volunteers are able to
provide the level of service they aspire to, thus enhancing public safety in our
Thank you for your attention to these issues. I look forward to your prompt response and to
moving forward positively.
Sincerely,
Katherine Corbett (Kit)
