Fishers are medium-sized, fur-bearing mammals found in temperate forests and managed as a sensitive species across many federal lands, which comprise roughly half of this population’s range. The finding is in the Federal Register Reading Room today, Friday, August 22, and will publish in the Federal Register on Monday, August 25. While fishers in the NCSO DPS continue to face threats such as wildfires and exposure to toxicants, the Service is actively working with tribes, state and federal agencies, and timber industry leaders to address and reduce these threats to support long-term conservation of the species. See this storymap to learn about fishers and the collaborative, voluntary efforts with private landowners, the timber industry, and other agencies aimed at preventing the need for ESA protections. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Best wishes and warmest regards, Joanna Joanna Gilkeson Public Affairs Specialist US Fish and Wildlife Service Sacramento, CA Mobile: 279-321-1408 Email: joanna_gilkeson@fws.gov
