I'm a Chico resident, public school teacher, and proud community volunteer. After reading about the recent self-appointed raises of the county board, I wanted to leave a comment. County supervisory board positions are thankless jobs that require a lot of work, calculation, and discernment of the pros and cons to make informed decisions. The recent decision about your salary increase seemed rash and tone-deaf however. The previous $62,000 salary clearly did not reflect the work you do, nor was it adjusted for 2025 living standards, but a 111% increase was a gratuitous number for a public servant funded by tax-payer dollars. The optics are terrible for a county that is struggling with a homeless issue, dilapidated schools, and a continuous bemoaning of road infrastructure, let alone many other underfunded projects. I would greatly appreciate a response to the thought-process and a time when board salaries can be discussed in a public forum. Thank you for all that you do, -- Sean Stephens Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) Sierra Leone, West Africa 2012-2014
