Grandview, MO 64030 APPLICATION Models CFD(R)5 and CFD(R)5A diffuser radiation shields include both a UL Classified ceiling damper, which may be model CFD(R)2, CFD(R)3.5 or CFD(R)3.5 with optional suffix "A", and a thermal insulating blanket. The thermal Insulating blanket is marked as an "accessory part of CFD5, CFD5A, CFDR5 or CFDR5A damper/blanket as- sembly, UL Classified, for use with damper size" as noted on the blanket. Models CFD(R)5 and CFD(R)5A diffuser radiation shields are for use in lieu of hinged -blade sheet metal dampers in steel ducts as specified in the "Design Information Section — General" and in individual ceiling/floor or ceil- ing/roof designs used as illustrated and described in the UL Fire Resistance Directory (FRD). When installed as shown and as described herein, these diffuser radiation shields provide appropriate protection to recessed -style ceiling diffusers in any fire rated ceiling/floor or ceiling/ roof assemblies with ratings of three hours or less as described in the FRD. The 233/4" x 233/4" lay -in diffuser is made from 24 MSG (minimum) steel and has a 4" maxi- mum overall height and a 20" maximum diameter or 18" maximum square collar. A maximum size ceiling penetra- tion of 576 square inches can be protected using the thermal insulating blanket furnished with the ceiling damper. The thermal insulating blanket protects the ex- posed portion of the ceiling diffuser and the ceiling damper protects the neck or inlet of the ceiling diffuser. ITEM DESCRIPTION 1. Damper 2. Flex duct must be UL Listed. The installations and diffusers shown in these instructions illustrate general arrangement only. Installations must also incorporate any specific require- ments included in the FRD. Note that both "Design Information Section — General" and individual ceiling/floor or ceiling/roof design listings apply. These instructions comply with Underwriters Laboratories Safety Standard 555. `ssi►,o SEE DETAILS ON UL CLASSIFICATION Um L- MARKING ON ENCLOSED PRODUCT "The letter "A" (CFDR5A) designates a manually adjustable damper with a 212*F or 165°F fuse link assembly. An adjustable damper must be installed in closed position with clearance between the diffuser and adjustment mechanism. Cycle the damper open after the diffuser and damper have been com- pletely assembled and clearance verified.
