The primary concern of yours was to show that the water supply has been currently tested; to verify existing and modified fire sprinkler .system has not been affected. The most recent water flow test was conducted by, Bid, Redding of the Butte County Fire Department, a few months ago. This test rendes that the present water supply has improved significantly from which all fire sprinkler hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing was designed. Although., a static pressure reading was not found by Ted Crawford, of the Butte County Fire Department, in $ill Readings' file ( Bill is on vacation), it does indicate assurance from concerns of present water supply, as requested. Hopefully, the information wH1 satisfy you enough to allow Linda Sexton of the Butte County Building Delmtment, to release our permit. In December, 1990, Butte County Fire Department was asked to certify for the Department of Corporations that the water system was adequate, The -system was tested and a letter was issued on 1/2,./.9'j- stating the system did not meet current county standards. After a second well was added to the system Butte County Fire Department was asked to re -test the system. A letter was issued on 2/24/94 with the results of a 1/7/94 hydrant test, and the system was certified as meeting the current fire department and subdivision standards. The hydrant nearest the Butte Creek Country Club flowed 1,034 gallons per minute---(gpm) with a residual pressure of 40 psi, and a static pressure of 50 psi at a nearby hydrant. The Butte County Fire Department was later contacted about the flow requirements for the Butte Creek Country Club. The Country Club was not required to be reviewed or to comply with the current fire department or sub division standards because no lot e4plits, zoning changes, or special use permits were being applied for. New construction or remodeling by itself does not require review or certifica- tion of water requirements. If the Country Club was being reviewed, the current county standards for water require- ments would be 2,000 gpm at 20 psi residual (unmitigated). The requirement for the Country Club with a sprinkler system installed would be 1,250 gpm at 20 psi residual. On 12/20/94 the Butte County Fire Department flow tested the water system to demonstrate that 1,034 gpm at 40 psi residual pressure was equal to a much higher gpm at 20 Y psi residual (the county minimum standard). Using a fire engine to f low water through a deluge nozzle with a straight bore 2 1/4" tip, 146 psi was measured at the tip by a pitot gage and 30 psi residual pressure was measured at the inlet to the fire engine (hydrant outlet). This computes to 1,812 gpm at this lower residual pressure of 30 psi. An additional test was done with the backup diesel engine driving the pump on well #1 instead of the electric motor. 160 psi was measured by the pitot gage at the nozzle and 35 psi residual pressure was measured at the fire engine inlet from the hydrant. This computes to 1,900 gpm. The pressure was reported to be still increasing at the pressure tank on well #1 during this flow test which indicated that the system was still not flowing its maximum Capacity. A larger pumper (fire engine) or multiple hydrants would have to be used to measure the system's maximum capacity at 20 psi residual pres- sure.-- - - - - --� - - The end results of all this testing is that the water system operated by the Butte Creek Services Corporation is certified by the Butte County Fire Department as meeting the fire department and subdivision standards for both residential use (three or more dwellings per acre), and light commercial/light industrial use with sprinkler systems installed. My initial involvement with the current remodeling project started with a request from Mr. Ed Hoiland, Architect, for a review of "preliminary" plans to add approximately 6000 square feet to the existing building. Several potential problems were immediately apparent; The occupancy classification would change from an A-3 to an A 2.1 , which requires fire rated construction (or automatic sprinklers in lieu of one-hour construction) , fire alarm system, exiting changes, etc. fir. Hoiland indicated that automatic sprinklers would be substituted for rated construction on the final plans submitted to the Butte County Building Department. I reviewed and stampted the Automatic Sprinkler plans on 10-27-94 (see attached transmittal) . Several items were questioned on the shop drawings, including water supply. All questions were answered satisfactorily by Cen-Cal via Fax transmittal. The approved plans indicated an adequate water supply for required fire flog.
