Dear Supervisors,
I have been a volunteer in the Archives part of the Records Office for many years. I have
learned so much about history and learned to organize information from the past and
put it on the computer for all to see. I have scanned maps and gone through old
warrants depicting what Bidwell and the other founders were purchasing for the county.
I learned and scanned road districts that were such a huge part of our history.
History research is such a vital part of learning who we are, and fortunately we have had
exceptional archivists to lead the way.
Anna Kawecka is young and so qualified for this position. She came into the department
knowing little and learned quickly about all facets of all the documents and maps. Anna
is one of a kind and a wonderful person to work with and for.
Sadly, Anna is leaving.
There doesn’t seem to be a replacement. Maps and other records being put onto the
computer will be partially done. The historians and others interested in history will have
nowhere to go as this was such an ideal place with such strong help.
No longer will there be volunteers who worked diligently to get information accessible to
the many. No longer will there be help in the form of Anna’s. No longer will that
department function as it was meant to be.
Please consider what you are losing. Please rethink this position. We need someone
like Anna and Melinda.
