HomeMy WebLinkAboutADM-26-0006 Emergency PlanLake Concow Campground is a safe spot to evacuate to if unable to get to Hwy 70. It is managed well,
dry grasses kept short, dangerous trees removed and processed, but also on the lakeshore. This saved
lives in 2018 Camp Fire. Concow and Hwy 70 corridor residents and businesses understand that there
are very few options for evacuation. Only getting to Hwy 70 allows you to leave the area. Sadly we had
campers in the Bear and Dixie fires, when they began, so have practiced this plan more than once.
Lake Concow Emergency Plan: If any fires are in our areas, we begin this process as a precaution.
1) Whoever is aware first, makes immediate phone calls to all members not on site. All members
on site gather immediately. We also have a plan in place to contact the locals we are aware of
that will need assistance, and ask them to prepare, just in case. All members know where
emergency shut offs are for power and water, as well as, know how to use fire extinguishers.
2) Sprinklers on hoses, are scattered around campground and are immediately turned on to wet
everything we can. Both of our wells get switched to generator if power is lost or if we are
forced to leave the property. We also have a 225 gallon water tender trailer to help if needed,
with custom fire hose set up for fire control.
3) As a group, we will make an assessment of the risk. Have there been actual voluntary or
mandatory evacuations issued? How is smoke? How is wind? How fast and direction of wind
and fire?
If not issued, we notify all campers that there is a wildfire in the area. We ask them to start
gathering things and connecting rv’s, because if the smoke gets heavy or any evacuation of
any kind is issued, they will be asked to leave immediately.
If evacuation order of any kind is issued, we intend to empty campground immediately. We
recommend that they either head home or to a parking lot in Chico until they have a plan. We
don’t want anyone lingering and would rather refund campers because we evacuated
prematurely, than have someone unable to get out.
4) Konkow Partners have been through many Butte County fires and all have personal
evacuation plans to be enacted, once campground is clear of campers. There aren’t many
options with only one road out.
5) We offer training to any community members who want to learn how to keep their property
fire safe, as well as, have a community tool lending library with all the equipment they need
and can be borrowed for free.
6) We have educated the community on how the lake saved lives and they know to head for the
water if unable to get to Hwy 70.
