Subject:FW: Thompson Fire EOC update July 3rd
Date:Wednesday, July 3, 2024 7:24:06 AM
Good morning Board,
The fire is holding at approximately 3002 acres. The winds did not increase as expected last night
and the footprint remained relatively the same per the Sheriff. There were also a number of people
roaming around Kelly Ridge last night which resulted in heavy law enforcement in the area. Today
more law enforcement will be brought in to provide relief to local law enforcement and address any
safety and security issues. Today the concern is about the increased temperatures and winds picking
up.
The Oroville Nazarene shelter has 150 people and the Gridley Shelter has 14 people. The small
animal shelter opens at 8:00 am and has 230 small animals. The large animal shelter opened at 7:00
am and has 27 animals onsite. Both shelters are still taking animals.
Last night the EOC went virtual at midnight.
Andy Pickett CAO will be taking over as EOC Director at 8:00 am this morning.
There is discussion with State parks and City of Biggs about whether they should keep the planned
fireworks event on July 4th or to cancel given the fire and extremely dry weather.
Air quality in Oroville is considered poor and many Oroville County staff are being asked to work in
alternate locations if possible.
