In response, the County Chief Administrative Officer activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and issued a Local Emergency Proclamation. In partnership with Red Cross, the County set up shelters at Oroville Church of the Nazarene and Gridley Fairgrounds. Both shelters are staffed with Public Health nurses and Behavioral Health staff to provide support to survivors. A large animal shelter was opened at Camelot Equestrian Park, 1985 Clark Rd, Oroville and a shelter for small animals opened at 2279 Del Oro Ave, Oroville. The purpose of issuing an emergency proclamation is to supplement local County efforts to protect lives, property, public health, and safety. “Emergency proclamations do two things: First, waive regulations which may hinder response and recovery efforts and second, give us the ability to request additional resources to increase our ability to respond to the needs of our community,” says County Chief Administrative Officer, Andy Pickett. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official Butte County channels and be ready to evacuate by packing an emergency kit with essential items and setting up a family emergency plan. Your cooperation during emergencies is necessary for the safety of you, your family, and for the Public Safety personnel who are working hard to minimize the risk to our community.
