FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Full Highway Closure Scheduled on State Route 70 for Cresta Project
Motorists Should Prepare for a Three-Hour Closure for Bridge Work
BUTTE COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting
motorists about a scheduled upcoming full
closure on State Route 70 near the Shady
Rest Area as part of the ongoing Cresta
Bridge and Roadway Rehabilitation Project.
The closure is scheduled for September 10
from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
During this time, crews will be using two
cranes to set and place the precast girders for
the new bridge deck at Bear Creek, part of the
$58.8 million project to restore and elevate the
roadway. The Cresta project will elevate the roadway by 5 feet and fortify the embankment to
prevent future flooding. This project, which began in February 2023, is expected to be completed
by summer 2025.
There will be no detours available during the three-hour closure. Motorists should expect delays
and are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone
Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these
improvements.
The department will issue construction updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at
CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap
app from the App Store or Google Play.
