Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor
Multiple Projects Underway; Delays Expected Throughout Summer, Fall
PLACER/NEVADA/SIERRA COUNTIES – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and
ramp closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects and emergency
repairs continue in Placer, Nevada and Sierra counties.
Emergency repair work is starting to wrap up for the season, but construction continues on major
projects and motorists still may experience delays up to a maximum of two hours and are
encouraged to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor. Here is the
breakdown for next week:
Eastbound I-80
· Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Magra, lane closures will be in place
from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, September 30 through Thursday, October 3. Work is also
scheduled 10 p.m. Friday, October 4 to 8 a.m. Saturday, October 5.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Monte Vista and Drum
Forebay, lane and ramp closures will be in place around the clock beginning at 6 a.m.
Monday, September 30 through 10 a.m. Friday, October 4. Work is also scheduled from
7 p.m. Friday, October 4 to 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5.
· Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Alta, lane closures will be in place
from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, September 30 through Thursday, October 3. Work is also
scheduled 9 p.m. Friday, October 4 to 7 a.m. Saturday, October 5.
· Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project between Yuba Gap and the
junction with State Route 20 (SR-20), lane closures will be in place from 6 a.m. to 7
p.m. Monday, September 30 through Thursday, October 4. Work is also scheduled from
6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, October 4.
· Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Crystal Lake, lane closures will be in
place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 30 through Thursday, October 3. Work
is scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Friday, October 4.
· Emergency Repairs Location 3 between Rainbow and Troy, lane closures will be in
place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 30.
· Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Troy and Soda Springs,
lane closures will be in place from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, September 29. Work is also
scheduled around the clock beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, September 30 through 6 a.m.
Friday, October 4.
Westbound I-80
· Westbound I-80 restriping project between the CHP Truck Scales and State Route
267, lane closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, September 30 through
Thursday, October 3.
· Emergency Repairs Location 4 near Castle Peak, ramp closures have been extended
and will remain in place around the clock until noon Friday, October 4.
· Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Soda Springs and Troy,
lane closures will be in place around the clock beginning 6 a.m. Tuesday, October 1
through 6 p.m. Friday, October 4.
· Emergency Repairs Location 3 between Troy and Rainbow, lane and ramp closures
will be in place from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 through Thursday, October 3.
Work is also scheduled from 5 a.m. to noon Friday, October 4.
· Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Crystal Lake, lane closures will be in
is scheduled to end at 7 a.m. Friday, October 4.
· Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project between the junction with SR-20
and Yuba Gap, lane closures will be in place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September
30 through Thursday, October 3. Work is also scheduled from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday,
October 4.
· Emergency Repairs Location 2 between Emigrant Gap and Nyack, lane and ramp
closures will be in place around the clock beginning 5 a.m. Monday, September 30 to
noon Friday, October 4.
· Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Blue Canyon, lane closures will be
in place from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday, September 30 through Thursday, October 3.
Work is scheduled to end 7 a.m. Friday, October 4.
· Emergency Repairs Location 2 between Whitmore and Drum Forebay, lane
closures will be in place from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 through Thursday,
October 3. Work is also scheduled from 5 a.m. to noon Friday, October 4.
· Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and Monte
Vista, lane and ramp closures will be in place around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday,
September 30 through 7 p.m. Saturday, October 5.
· Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Magra, lane closures will be in place
from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, September 30 through Thursday, October 3. Work is also
scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, October 4 through 8 a.m. Saturday, October 5.
The extended lane closures will help to minimize the duration of the work and improve workers’
safety. For more information on each project visit Caltrans District 3 Current Projects. The
schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other
unexpected events.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11
Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone
Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these
improvements.
