Date:Monday, October 21, 2024 4:53:53 PM Please see Board Correspondence below. From: tedkad@comcast.net <tedkad@comcast.net> Sent: Monday, October 21, 2024 2:06 PM To: Clerk of the Board <clerkoftheboard@buttecounty.net> Subject: Misleading information on ballot Measure H. To Whom It May Concern: My name is Theodore Kalivas, and I am a registered voter in Butte County. I am taking issue with the way the wording on Measure H, both on the ballot and in the Voter Guide, was presented to the voting public. The Voter Information Guide referenced the tax in two ways: a 1-cent tax, and a one-percent tax. The two are not the same. The actual Ballot only described the tax as a 1-cent tax. While I fully understand that no remedy to the ballot is practical now, it may be equitable to the voting public to either cancel the measure altogether, and vote at a later time, or, make a public announcement as to the misleading nature of the wording ‘1-cent’ tax, and allow the voting to continue as planned. While some may say, “It is a small matter,” my greatest fear is that the wording was intentionally misleading in order to convey a miniscule cost to the tax payer, rather than the real substantial increase which will occur (from 7.25% to 8.25%) or whatever. The California voter is always encouraged to read the provided facts, and discern a sensical opinion about the relevant issue. I believe I have attempted to do just that in this concern. Thank you for entertaining my grievance. Respectfully, T.K. P.S. I wish to commend Melissa Kitts for her professionalism and compassion while fielding my unease.
