Hello,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out and share some personal
experiences that have shaped my perspective, as well as my commitment to supporting
meaningful change in our community. While I had previously submitted an idea without
including my full story due to timing and readiness, I now feel compelled to explain
more, as I believe my journey can help future generations and drive improvements in our
systems.
My story involves deeply personal circumstances, including challenges related to trust
administration, family decisions, and the impact of legal processes on my life and my
children. I’ve seen firsthand how decisions were made without my consent or full
understanding, especially while I was facing difficult situations such as open referrals
with CPS, separation from my children, and legal representation that I couldn’t change
due to trust-related influences. These experiences, combined with accusations that
were not rooted in the full truth, left me feeling voiceless at critical moments.
What’s become clear to me is how crucial empathy and accurate understanding are in
these matters. Too often, systems are quick to make judgments based on incomplete
information, particularly when it comes to issues like drug use and family separation.
I’ve witnessed how trauma, misinformation, and the lack of proper support can lead to
outcomes that harm not only individuals, but entire families—sometimes with the best
intentions but the wrong approach. For example, the criminalization of pregnant women
and the rapid adoption processes can overlook the root causes and perpetuate cycles of
misunderstanding.
As someone with a background in human services, legal documentation, and personal
advocacy, I’ve done my best to support not just myself, but others in similar
circumstances. I’ve worked hard to provide for my children and maintain my sobriety,
and I understand the impact of trauma, the importance of bonding, and the need for
honest conversation around addiction. My hope is to partner with counties and
organizations rather than be seen as adversarial, and to offer insight into how policies
and practices could better serve families and children.
I also want to mention how personal loss, such as the theft of my parents’ death
certificates and other vital records, compounded the difficulties I faced. Despite these
challenges, I remain committed to transparency, healing, and building trust. My faith
and my experiences as an ordained minister have strengthened my resolve to contribute
positively and help others find their own resilience.
In the spirit of community, I’m also inviting everyone to join us in the park for karaoke on
the 8th at 4:30, near Martin Luther King Junior Park. Let’s come together, express
ourselves through music, and support each other. It’s a great way to break through
barriers and remind ourselves of the joy and connection we can share.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope my story encourages thoughtful
reflection and partnership as we work toward a more compassionate and effective
system. Please feel free to contact me at 541-979-7219 if you’d like to discuss this
further or explore ways we can collaborate.
Wishing you all the best and looking forward to positive change.
Sincerely,
Amber Williams (formerly Pangborn)
