Revised May 5-6, 2026 Meeting Agenda
Topics:
May 5: Regional Marine Protected Area (MPA) Petitions
(alongshore San Luis Obispo through Santa Barbara counties
petitions)
May 6: Central Valley Sport Fishing and Klamath River Basin
and MPA petitions (northern Channel Islands and Santa
Barbara Island petitions)
Greetings,
The agenda for the May 5-6, 2026 California Fish and Game Commission
meeting has been revised to:
• Amend the descriptions of Agenda Items 2-5 (Petitions 2023-28MPA,
-29MPA, -19MPA, and -20MPA, respectively) to clarify the proposed
petition actions and reflect the intent of tribal leads or co-leads as
clarified during the April 14, 2026 Tribal Committee meeting.
• Amend the descriptions of Agenda Items 6, 8, and11-14 (Petitions
2023-34MPA, -18MPA, -27MPA, -14MPA and 15MPA, respectively) to
clarify the proposed petition actions.

• Renumber Agenda Item 8 (Petition 2023-18MPA) sub-item 8(A).
• Add sub-item 8(B) to schedule Petition 2022‑04, submitted by the
City of Lompoc in 2022. The Commission referred the petition to the
Department for review and subsequently requested that it be
included in the Department’s MPA petitions evaluations, which were
presented at the Commission’s April 2026 meeting. The petition was
inadvertently omitted from this agenda and prior public materials; it is
now included to ensure opportunity for public input within the
context of the current MPA petition process.
Instructions on how to participate will be posted to the Commission
website prior to the meeting. While the Commission will make a
reasonable effort to ensure remote access is available, it cannot
guarantee the accessibility or functionality of those options.
Please refer to the agenda for important meeting information and
deadlines, including detailed meeting goals, expectations, and speaking
guidelines, and format.
Note that due to a significant agenda and anticipated number of
speakers, attendees should prepare for the timing identified in the
agenda and meeting expectations document. While we did signal that
the chair of the meeting may adapt timing as the meetings evolve and
lessons are learned, we cannot guarantee consistency in speaking time
from one meeting to the next.
The final regional MPA meeting is scheduled for May 19. A table showing
how all petitions are distributed across the three regional meetings is
posted on the Commission meetings page, and is available at this link.
