Subject: CDBG Rural Water Safety Project Update
Good morning,
The below information is for the members of the Board of Supervisors, thank you.
Butte County Public Health has initiated the Rural Water Safety Project, which includes
a comprehensive review and, as needed, updates to the County’s existing ordinances
governing water wells (Butte County Code Chapter 23B) and wastewater systems (Butte
County Code Chapter 19B).
We have begun coordination with our consulting team to establish Technical Advisory
Committees (TACs) for each ordinance. These TACs will be composed of
representatives from local government and academia, along with subject matter
experts, including professional engineers for the wastewater component. The purpose of
these committees is to review the current ordinances, identify opportunities for
improvement, evaluate potential revisions, and ensure consistency with applicable
regulations, standards, and policies.
Materials and recommendations developed through the TAC process will subsequently
be presented to local advisory bodies for broader stakeholder engagement and
discussion, including the Water Well Advisory Group (WWAG) and the Wastewater
Advisory Committee (WAC).
We will continue to keep the Board of Supervisors informed as key milestones are
reached. Additionally, a dedicated webpage is currently in development and will be
available through the Environmental Health section of the County’s website to provide
access to project updates and materials.
Please let me know if you would like a more detailed briefing on this effort.
