Kind regards,Kristi ---- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMay 12, 2026 BUTTE COUNTY BUILDING DIVISION NAMED 2025–2026 BUILDING DEPARTMENTOF THE YEAR BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — Butte County’s Department of Development Services is thrilledto announce that the department’s Building Division was recently awarded the CaliforniaBuilding Officials Association’s (CALBO) prestigious 2025–2026 Building Department of theYear Award, recognizing its enduring commitment to serving local communities and itsleadership in innovation, recovery support, and public engagement. Over the past year, the Building Division has transformed its operations, completing a fulltransition to a 100% digital workflow. This modernization has made building safety servicesmore accessible, efficient, and user-friendly for residents and professionals alike. Keyadvancements include the launch of a new Accela permitting system, deployment ofStarlink connectivity to support rural field operations, and the implementation ofconcurrent plan review processes, which have significantly reduced turnaround times.Throughout these changes, the department continued to deliver high service levels withnext-business-day inspections, fast‑track review options, and streamlined customersupport. Butte County’s Building Division has expanded beyond its traditional role to supportlong‑term recovery. Innovative programs such as free pre‑approved small-home masterplans, permit-fee assistance grants, and a dedicated Rebuild Advocate funded through theHazard Mitigation Grant Program have helped remove barriers to residents rebuildingtheir homes and lives. The department’s code enforcement team also plays a key role incommunity well‑being by prioritizing proactive outreach, achieving high voluntarycompliance, and working closely with social service partners to assist vulnerable residents. The Building Division also stands out for its exceptional community engagement.
