Happy Public Service Recognition Week!
Thank you for your service to your community. Your work makes a difference each day and the
Institute is proud to stand behind you. We offer our sincere gratitude for your contributions.
As we mark Public Service Recognition Week, we recognize and honor county employees who
sustain essential services and support thriving communities across California. We recognize
individuals like you, whose commitment in county government strengthens and uplifts the
communities you serve every day.
Today, we celebrate Ericka, a remarkable leader in Yuba County.
Ericka Summers
First 5 Executive Director, Yuba County
How do you explain to others what you do?
For the past seven years, I have had the privilege of
serving as the Executive Director of First 5 Yuba
County. In my role I get to act as an advocate,
convener, and steward of resources to create quality
early learning experiences, and coordinated systems
that improve outcomes for young children and their families, ensuring children are healthy
thriving and ready to learn.
What drew you to public service?
I have always had a passion for public service, and specifically human services that enhance the
health, safety and wellbeing of residents. For nearly 20 years I have had the opportunity to serve
in the public sector at both local and state levels. Today, I am very proud to be a part of the Yuba
County family to deliver quality service to our community.
What’s the best piece of advice that you ever received?
Throughout my career I have learned from the leaders around me, through both positive and
negative experiences. While no single piece of advice has shaped my leadership, it is the
collective impact of those experiences that has guided my growth and helped define the leader I
am today. At the center of my values are people, and creating environments where individuals
feel heard, supported, and empowered to be their best.
Three A’s: what’s your favorite Artist, Attraction, and Appetizer.
On a more personal note, I enjoy attending baseball games with my family, whether it’s at a
professional MLB stadium, a college field, or even a local Little League game. My favorite artist
is Morgan Wallen, and my go-to appetizer is any type of flavorful dip like jalapeño artichoke or
queso.
